Save Your Health using 10,000 Steps

We all strive to be as healthful as we are able to be but we do not always have enough time that we need to get in all of the exercise that is required to be so. This is actually why some health professionals are advocating the ten thousand step method. The ten thousand step method is an idea that claims all you need to try and do to improve your health is to walk at least ten thousand steps every day–this way you won’t have to work out as intensely at the gym. Walking is really a brilliant and low impacting exercise. How often have you heard “if he’d merely taken a walk around the block now and then?”

Obviously, getting in ten thousand steps day after day is going to be challenging. That’s a lot of of steps to take! The very good news is that you are already likely taking ten thousand steps every day without knowing it. All you have to do is figure out how to add in a couple or few thousand additional steps to achieve this goal. So how do you make it happen without resorting to simply taking walks back and forth for hours on end?

Increasing your step count can be done easily utilizing these obvious methods. One classic example of this is actually going up the the stairs instead of taking an elevator or escalator. When you go to the store or the mall park your car further away from the door. Keep the car in one spot and walk your bags and boxes out to the car once you finish shopping in each store rather than just carrying more and more things with you as you run your errands and go shopping. Choosing public transit is fantastic because it includes a walk to and from a bus or train stop which is great for increasing your step count. And, certainly, taking a short walk every day is a great way to increase your step count.

There are also some less obvious ways to improve the amount of steps you take each day. Organize a grocery shopping list differently. Plenty of people organize lists by the aisles in their favorite stores. Instead, organize your list into individual categories like produce, dairy and meat. Simply look straight down the list from here. Sure you may wind up running back and forth through the store however it can be great for taking more steps every day. Instead of owning a mail box inside your door or attached to your home, mount it on a post close to the curb. This can create at least several dozen steps to your count on a daily basis as you walk from the door to the box and back.

Increasing your step count can be carried out in several ways. The more used to thinking about 10,000 steps you get the easier it’s going to be for you to figure out how to meet your goal. Thankfully, every step you take–whether it’s walking toward the refrigerator or going for walks on a treadmill, counts toward your end step count goal. Try to have fun with your project!
